When you think of glamour, chances are a set of red-painted lips come to mind. And why wouldn't they? They're as much of a staple as the little black dress, and beloved by just about every celebrity you can think of. These days, red lipstick is as popular on the red carpet as it is at cocktail parties and after-work drinks — and as these models, actresses and singers show, there's no end to the slightly different iterations out there. Whether it's red with a hint of raspberry (hello, Emmy Rossum at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards on Monday) or a strong pigment that leans toward orange (like on Amber Heard), it's bold, it's beautiful, it's womanly and it's unstoppable. Click through to see over 25 of our favourite celebs rocking red lipstick in its many forms!
Johnny Depp brought along girlfriend Amber Heard when he reunited with his Cry-Baby crew at the ninth annual Johnny Ramone Tribute at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Sunday. The actor took part in a Q&A alongside co-stars Ricki Lake and Traci Lords and director John Waters. Other celebrity attendees included Dita Von Teese and Linda Ramone, Johnny's widow. The film, which marked Johnny's first-ever leading movie role, was screened against a mausoleum wall alongside vintage Ramones footage.
Johnny's co-star Traci gave insight into the actor's drive to become a movie star ahead of the screening, saying, "Johnny Depp desperately wanted to be a movie star, and everybody said he couldn't, because he was only a supporting actor on 21 Jump Street. This was his first lead in a movie, a big deal for him." John agreed with Traci, saying that "everyone in Cry-Baby was in acting image rehab. If you embrace what your critics are saying and make fun of it, you turn it around." Luckily, Johnny's "rehab" in Cry-Baby paid off for him as he went on to become one of the biggest movie stars in the world.
With the Teen Choice Awards and the InStyle Summer Soiree taking place this week, we were treated to more lovely beauty looks than usual. One of our favourite stars of the moment tried out some cute braids and pared-back makeup, while both Lily Collins and Ashley Madekwe reminded us of the pulling power of a great red lipstick. Selena Gomez opted for a sleek and straigh look, while Lucy Hale let the good times roll, with her hair filled with waves we couldn't help but envy. This week's most stylish outfits came in just about every form imaginable. From covered up and cool (like Olivia Palermo and Julianne Hough) to slinky splits and sex appeals (like Selena Gomez and Ashley Madekwe), our favourite stars had every kind of look covered. Lily Collins continued to dominate the fashion scene, this time wearing a cool Australian label paired with Christian Louboutin heels, and Amber Heard tried out a less-scary version of the midriff trend, in an oversize ensemble we kind of want in our wardrobes. As with most things, lunching in Hollywood is a bigger event, particularly when it's a luncheon thrown by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and the guest list starts with Diane Kruger. Yesterday's Installation Luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel drew out lovely looks from a short list of our favorite style-setters. Diane Kruger arrived in a plaid Carven Resort 2014 Collection strapless dress, which she finished with simple ankle-strap Stuart Weitzman heels. Taylor Schilling traded her orange jumpsuit for a pink mini-dress and coordinating, strappy lace-up heels, and Olivia Wilde looked lovely in a bold fit-and-flare dress with bright green platforms and a matching clutch.
Meanwhile, Eva Longoria hit the red carpet and showed off her stems in a white mini-dress and nude accessories. True to form, Nicole Kidman took the sophisticated route in a long-sleeved green sheath and metallic ankle-strap heels. Amber Heard gave us a day-appropriate take on the crop top in a white-on-white top and high-waisted skirt combo from the Osman Collection with pointed-toe Casadei pumps to finish it off. That's the rundown on who wore what — now it's time to weigh in. Which Hollywood beauty gets your vote?
Were there no plus-ones allowed? Coupled-up celebs like Olivia Wilde, Nicole Kidman, and a Carven-clad Diane Kruger stepped out solo for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Installation Luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel in LA today. The annual event, which aims to provide grants and support to entertainment-related non-profits and causes, was hosted by Eva Longoria, who was also without her new boyfriend, Ernesto Arguello. The luncheon also brought out Colin Farrell, Jonah Hill and Liam Hemsworth, who showed up sans fiancée Miley Cyrus but stuck close to his Paranoia co-star Amber Heard. Liam and Miley did however walk the red carpet together for the film's big premiere in NYC last week.
Olivia Wilde showed off her gorgeous engagement ring despite not having Jason Sudeikis on her arm at the event. She has been spending time on the West Coast since supporting her funny fiancé at the Big Apple screening of his comedy We're the Millers recently. Another LA transplant, Diane Kruger, is currently starring in the FX mystery show The Bridge and has been spotted filming scenes around the city. Though Diane may not have had the company of her long-time beau Joshua Jackson today, the couple recently showed love on a sweet hike and Vespa ride through town.
Each week we're inundated with new hair and makeup looks on our favourite stars. Some we love, some we don't. . . And some of them make us stop everything to look twice. This weekly gallery is for the last category — the celebrity beauty looks we can't ignore. And why would you want to, when it's all so pretty? Amber Heard's flawless skin (with a hint of golden shimmer on her feature points) stole the show, her daytime smoky eye not far behind with its subtly sexy impact. Rachel McAdam's let her copper locks flow for the first time on the red carpet, her alabaster skin and pink lips adding to make an ensemble we couldn't resist. This week's crop of the best dressed celebrities can only be described as a mixed bag. We saw everything: long white gowns with irridescent features (bravo, Rachel McAdams), denim cut-offs that exposed long, long legs (well played, Ashley Madekwe) and the coolest version of masculine dressing we've seen in a while, courtesy of Nicole Richie. Australian model Nicole Trunfio went all out, baring both her midriff and her mile-long legs — if you've got it, flaunt it! — and we're not sure if you've noticed, but Lily Collins is slowly but surely cementing her place on the fashion hit list, her latest outit being one of the best we've seen yet. And if you take anything from this Top 10 list? Its that two-strap sandals are still the hottest shoe you can strap yourself into. Click through to see it all!
Miley Cyrus showed her support for her on-again, off-again fiancé, Liam Hemsworth, when she attended the premiere of his newest movie, Paranoia, in LA last night. The Proenza Schouler-clad singer stuck close to her boyfriend as they walked the red carpet, occasionally breaking away so that Liam could mingle with his co-stars Amber Heard and Harrison Ford, who brought his wife, Calista Flockhart, and daughter, Georgia, to the big bash.
The premiere stop was a change of pace for busy Miley, who has been traveling around the globe to promote her newest single, "We Can't Stop," and her upcoming album, BANGERZ. Meanwhile, Liam has had a full schedule with press duties in both LA and NYC for his latest flick. With such hectic plans, it comes as no surprise that the couple has put their wedding plans on hold. Miley's younger sister, Noah Cyrus, recently said that the couple "are not planning [their wedding] yet." Miley and Liam went through a bit of a rough patch earlier this year when the singer was spotted without her engagement ring. However, it now looks as if the young lovebirds are back on.
